CAIR-Texas Welcomes Police Call for Prosecutors to Treat Attempted Murder of Muslim Child as Hate Crime

The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Texas), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed local law enforcement’s call for prosecutors in Tarrant County to treat the alleged murder attempt of a 3-year-old Muslim child in a public pool in Dallas as a hate crime.
Elizabeth Wolf, 42, was charged with attempted murder after allegedly making racist remarks toward the child’s Palestinian-American mother, who wears an Islamic head scarf (hijab), before the attack on the child in a swimming pool.
A Euless police official told The Associated Press that prosecutors in Tarrant County have been asked to treat the case as a hate crime.

CAIR-Texas previously asked state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate the allegedly bias-motivated murder attempt as a hate crime and take all precautions to keep the Muslim family and the Muslim community safe.
In a statement, CAIR-Austin Operations Manager Shaimaa Zayan said:
“We welcome the request that local prosecutors treat this alleged murder attempt targeting a Muslim child as a hate crime. Federal officials should take a similar action to show that allegedly bias-motivated violence targeting minority communities will never be tolerated or excused.”
Earlier this year, CAIR released new civil rights data showing that it has received 3,578 complaints during the last three months of 2023 amid an ongoing wave of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian hate.
