Islamic Center in Dallas Texas

The Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-DFW), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on law enforcement authorities to investigate as a possible hate crime an image posted online apparently showing an individual bragging about urinating on a mosque sign.

The post by “JewishBiker88” says, “Found a good place to take a p**s while out on the motorcycle this morning,” and shows the sign of the East Texas Islamic Society Mosque & School in Tyler, Texas. That account, which displayed Israeli and American Flags, no longer exists.

“We urge law enforcement authorities to investigate this apparently bias-motivated vandalism and to take appropriate action against the alleged perpetrator,” said CAIR-TX Executive Director Mustafaa Carroll. “No house of worship, of any faith, should be targeted by hate.”

He noted that earlier this year, CAIR released new civil rights data showing that it has received 3,578 complaints during the last three months of 2023 amid an ongoing wave of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian hate.

Carroll urged houses of worship to utilize CAIR’s Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety guide, which contains security advice applicable to institutions of all faiths.
