Standing Strong in the Face of Hate: Responding to the Plano Anti Muslim Protest

On December 13th, members of the Muslim community in Plano and supporters witnessed a disturbing display of Islamophobia outside the East Plano Islamic Center. Organized by a far right activist under the banner of opposing what was described as the Islamification of America, the gathering involved hostile rhetoric, provocative symbols, and a direct attempt to intimidate Muslim worshippers and neighbors.

These actions were clearly intended to provoke fear and disruption. Instead, the response from the community reflected dignity, patience, and resilience. The East Plano Islamic Center continued its longstanding food pantry operations and community services that support families across North Texas regardless of faith or background, even while facing harassment.

CAIR DFW condemns the rhetoric and intimidation directed at Muslim residents and places of worship. Mosques are sacred spaces and community anchors. Targeting them through harassment or protest rooted in hate undermines not only Muslim safety but the principles of religious freedom and equality that protect all communities.

What occurred in Plano did not happen in isolation. Across Texas and the country, inflammatory rhetoric and misinformation continue to contribute to a climate in which Muslim institutions are unfairly targeted. When public discourse treats Muslim communities as suspicious or foreign, it emboldens those who seek to intimidate and divide.

CAIR DFW remains committed to defending the civil liberties of Muslim Texans, supporting community institutions, and educating the public about the real consequences of Islamophobia. We encourage community members to stand together against hate, to document and report incidents of bias, and to support one another through collective action and care.

If you or someone you know experienced harassment or discrimination, we urge you to reach out to CAIR DFW for guidance and support. Our strength as a community lies in unity, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to dignity and justice for all.
